TPDCo assessing impact of Tropical Storm Rafael on tourism properties along the south coast
In response to the recent passage of Tropical Storm Rafael, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has directed the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) to conduct comprehensive impact assessments on tourism properties along Jamaica’s south coast, with a specific focus on Negril.
The Minister’s directive aims to ensure the preservation and swift recovery of key tourism assets vital to Jamaica’s hospitality industry.
Mr. Bartlett highlighted the importance of rapid response to natural disruptions.
He has instructed TPDCo to evaluate and assess the storm’s impact on properties and infrastructure across the south coast and Negril.
Mr. Bartlett explained that this proactive approach will allow stakeholders to address and remedy any issues affecting the tourism product and continue providing exceptional tourist experiences.
As part of these assessments, TPDCo will focus on identifying areas that require immediate repair or reinforcement, as well as any support required for affected tourism operators.
The findings will help to inform further action plans to restore and sustain Jamaica’s tourism offerings, as the country prepares for peak season.
