In what’s being described by many as a stunning political resurrection, Republican candidate Donald Trump has been elected the 47th President of the United States.
He has made history as the oldest person to take the white house at 78, and the first convicted person to win the presidency.
This as he defeated the democrat’s Kamala Harris, who was seeking to make history as the US’ first black female president.
However, this was not to be, as for the second time in less than a decade, the Electoral College tipped the scales in Trump’s favour.
Addressing supporters in Florida, Trump doubled down on his pledge to make the US safe, prosperous and free, while maintaining that success will bring the country together.
Despite Trump’s assurances, several Jamaican Americans waking up to the news of his win, are anxious about his stewardship of the country.
One woman who lives in Florida, claims the standard of the presidential post has deteriorated.
She says, many in her community are fearful.
Here in Washington, one man says he is terribly disappointed.
However, not all Jamaicans are disappointed with Trump’s win.
Two who spoke with Irie FM, but refused to be recorded, said they believed that with their US citizenship, they have nothing to fear.
Harris is expected to address supporters and the nation sometime today.
