NWU says it stands ready to defend rights of Royalton Negril workers following protest
The National Workers Union (NWU) says it stands ready to defend the rights of workers at Royalton Negril in Westmoreland, in the wake of reports of unfair treatment by hotel management.
NWU’s General Secretary, Granville Valentine said, the trade union will not allow this situation to continue.
His comments follow Monday’s strike by upset workers, who called for better wages and working conditions.
The government intervened and following meetings, the workers resumed duties, and management implemented some immediate measures, including a pay increase.
Valentine said, the contract employment system for hotel workers, needs to be reviewed.
He added that hotel workers deserve a livable wage.
