Several Jamaicans who received national honours, dedicate their achievement to their families

A number of Jamaicans who were honoured today for their contribution to nation building have dedicated  their achievement to their families while deeming it an honour to serve the country.

The Ceremony of Investiture and Presentation of National Honours and Awards 2024 was held at the  National Indoor Sports Centre, in St. Andrew. 

Outstanding nation-builders were conferred with the Order of Jamaica, the Order of Distinction, the Badge of Honour for Gallantry, the Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service and the Badge of Honour for Long and Faithful Service.

The Medal of Honour for Gallantry, a posthumous award, went to Constable Ricardo Fairclough.

His widow received the award today.

Meantime, Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States Audrey Marks, dedicated her OJ to her parents, and the teams of public and private sector persons who have aided her work, as well as entrepreneurs across the island. 

Another OJ awardee, Professor Wendel Abel, who was recognised for his contribution to Psychiatry, particularly in mental and community health said he accepted it with a “sense of pride and humility. 

Donald Moore who got the Order of Distinction, OD, for service to the field of housing and construction, said the award was dedicated to his late father.
