Roshawn Clarke and Ackera Nugent – the first two Jamaicans to sign with Grand Slam Track League
World Championship finalist Roshawn Clarke and Olympic sprint hurdles finalist Ackera Nugent today became the first two Jamaicans who have been signed by Grand Slam Track, the new global home of Professional Track Competition, launched earlier this year by four-time US Olympic Champion Michael Johnson.
Nugent and Clarke join a stacked roster of talents announced so far which include : Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone, Melissa Jefferson, Masai Russell, Quincy Hall, Fred Kerley, Kenny Bednarek, Cole Hocker, Grant Fisher, Josh kerr, Matthew Hudson-Smith, Cyrena Samba-Mayela, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Alison Dos Santos of Brazil.
Nugent who holds the national record in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at 12.24 seconds set at the Rome Diamond League, is the 4th fastest women in the history of the event, while Clarke was a fourth place finisher in the men’s 400 metres hurdles at the World Championship in Budapest, Hungary last year.
The competitors are chosen by the Grand Slam Track Racing committee based on a combination of factors including recent performances, and the most intriguing athletes and matchups.
The winner of each slam group will take home $100,000 in prize money, and the 8th place competitor will earn $10,000.
