Opposition calls on PM Holness to condemn Warmington’s attacks on the media
The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP, is calling on Prime Minister Andrew Holness to condemn what it says are dangerous and escalating attacks on the media by Jamaica Labour Party member, Everald Warmington.
In a release this morning, the PNP said during a speech at the JLP’s Area Council 2 Conference, in St. Catherine on Sunday, Mr. Warmington once again targeted the media, vowing to intensify his campaign despite mounting criticism.
The PNP said this threatens the safety of journalists and undermines Jamaica’s democratic values.
Opposition Spokesperson on Information Nickeisha Burchell said Mr. Warmington has a history of such verbal attacks.
According to Ms. Burchell, Prime Minister Holness has not held him accountable.
She is calling for immediate action to be taken.
She said Information Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon has not publicly condemned the actions of Mr. Warmington.
Ms. Burchell urged the press association of Jamaica and other parties to foster national dialogue promoting respect between political actors and the media.
