Champs Clarendon College and Central face-off to decide Zone H winner in ISSA DaCosta Cup

The battle to decide the group winner in the competitive Zone H takes center-stage as action draws to close in the first round of the ISSA/Wata DaCosta Cup high schoolboy football competition.

Central High, who lead the table on 19 points, will top the table with a draw against defending champions Clarendon College who are a point behind in second and must emerge victorious in the contest at the Wembley Center of Excellence if they are to finish on top. The previous meeting saw Alrick Archer’s second-half goal proving the difference for Central who won the match 1-0 to claim their first ever victory over their Chapelton-based opponents.

Elsewhere Denbigh High, having already secured the third qualifying spot by amassing 16 points, entertain out of contention Lennon.

The Zone H winner will join Group 6 in the Round of 32 alongside Dinthill Technical, Port Antonio Highh and Yallahs High. The runner-up will be placed in Group 7 along with Glenmuir High, Titchfield High and Paul Bogle High while the third place finisher joins Belair High, Happy Grove High and Holmwood Technical in Group 5.

The final team to advance to the Round of 32 will be decided with the Zone G contest between Alphansus Davis High and Bellefield High.

The match to be played at Aphansus Davis High continues from the 58th minute with both teams locked in a 2-2 stalemate. A draw for the hosts would see them advancing to the second round where they would play in Group 4 alongside Munro College, Maldon High and Browns Town High.

In the other games, 2003 winners Frome Technical, who need a point to claim Zone B honours, face Green Island High, second place Rusea’s High host Knockalva Technical and Cambridge High take on Anchovy High in a game of academic interest.

The Zone B winner plays in Group 2 while the runners-up be placed in Group 1.

The Round of 32 gets underway on Tuesday with Port Antonio High facing Dinthill Technical at Carder Park.
