Sunshine Girls star defender Shamera Sterling-Humphrey has for the second consecutive year been voted as the top player in the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia, following the publishing of the annual rankings of the top 15 players.

Sterling-Humphrey, a member of the Adelaide Thunderbirds, played an instrumental role in the franchise winning back-to-back titles after leading the league in three statistical categories – deflections (96), intercepts (44) and defensive rebounds (36).

She was also the highest placed defender and third highest player overall in Nissan net points with 1292.

Her standout performance took place in the Major Semi-final against Melbourne Vixens where she compiled 14 gains, eight rebounds, six deflections, five intercepts and a game-high 134 Nissan net points.

Latanya Wilson – Sterling-Humphrey’s teammate – was the next highest ranked Jamaican on the top 15 rankings at number 4.

The 24 year old tallied the second highest number of intercepts (42) and deflections (82) in the league highlighting why she is one of the world’s best. Her most impressive outing during 2024 was against NSW Swifts in Round 7 playing both goal defense and wing defense

Also making the list were Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard (6), Kadie-Ann Dehaney (10) and Shimona Jok (11).

Fowler-Nembhard earned her spot after topping the league for goals scored with 813 at a lethal accuracy of 96 per cent while amassing a league best 1571.5 Nissan Net Points and finished fifth in offensive rebounds with 42. Her most prolific performance came in Round 1 for West Coast Fever against the GIANTS, slotting 67 goals and three Super Shots with only one attempt missed throughout the match.

Dehaney or De-Gainey as she became known throughout the year stamped her authority in defense for West Coast Fever and was a menace for opposition attacking players, finishing the season with 19 intercepts and 56 deflections.

The 25-year-old Jok, who played for newcomers Melbourne Mavericks, finished the season with 424 goals shot at 93 per cent during the 12 matches. Her best outing was against Queensland Firebirds in Round 6 where she collated 91.5 Nissan Net Points.
