Everton “Beachy Stout” McDonald, co-convict Oscar Barnes sentenced to life in prison for killing McDonald’s second wife, Tonia

Portland businessman Everton “Beachy Stout” McDonald and Oscar Barnes who were convicted of the murder of McDonald’s second wife Tonia have both been sentenced to life in prison.

They will each serve 28 years and 11 months in prison before being eligible for parole.

The 69-year-old businessman was also sentenced to four years and six months in prison for conspiracy, while Barnes was sentenced to six years and six months for the same charge.

The men were sentenced by Justice Chester Stamp in the Home Circuit Court today.

A seven-member jury found them guilty on the charges of murder and conspiracy to murder on March 6, following a trial which lasted several weeks.

The prosecution had argued that McDonald offered $3 million to a man called Denvalyn Minott to have his wife murdered.

Minott who was a witness for the prosecution testified that he was incapable of committing the murder so he hired Barnes to do the job.

Tonia’s charred remains were found beside her burnt out car in Sherwood Forest in Portland in July 2020.

Her throat was slashed and she was stabbed at least nine times.

Beachy Stout is also facing trial for the 2009 murder of his first wife, 50-year-old Merlene McDonald, who was fatally shot outside her home in Boundbrook, Portland.
