Road Safety Council wants financial support from gov’t and private sector to establish road safety campaign
The National Road Safety Council says financial support from the government and the private sector is needed for the establishment of a road safety public education campaign, aimed at reducing road deaths.
Vice chairman of the council, Dr. Lucien Jones made the statement, following the death of an 11-year-old Vere Technical High school student in Clarendon, yesterday.
Dead is Marla Richards of Kemps Hill in the parish.
Reports are that at about 4 PM, Marla exited a motor vehicle and was attempting to cross the kemps hill main road when she was hit by Hiace motor truck. She was pronounced dead at hospital.
Expressing sadness at the incident, Dr. Jones said children must be taught how to cross roads properly.
He noted that 271 persons have been killed in crashes since the start of the year.
Dr. Jones said to help prevent road deaths, funds are needed for the establishment of a road safety campaign.
