Teachers attached to the St. Elizabeth-based school where a submachine gun was recently seized from a 7-year-old student, are being urged to delay any decision to resign from their posts. 

This amid reports that some teachers have expressed a desire to quit following threats against members of  the school community. 

The threats reportedly stemmed from the seizure of a submachine gun, after it was found in the child’s bag. 

When probed about resignations at the school, President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) Dr. Mark Smith told IRIE FM News that he has heard reports about educators wanting to leave. 

He pleaded with the teachers to give the police and the Education Ministry the time to address the situation. 

Dr. Smith said the school has shifted to the online modality, because parents kept their children at home, due to safety concerns. 

He pledged that the JTA will assist in ensuring that normal operations resume at the school soon.
