Court of Appeal to undertake initiative exploring legitimacy, ethical concerns surrounding use of AI in court’s system

President of the Court of Appeal Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop says an initiative will be undertaken to explore the legitimacy and ethical concerns surrounding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the court’s system.

She made the statement at yesterday’s swearing-in ceremony of judges for the Michaelmas term.

According to McDonald-Bishop one of the country’s senior judges, Justice Kissock Laing will lead the initiative.

She noted that the move is important for the judiciary, which is seeking to find more efficient ways to further address case backlogs.

McDonald-Bishop said experts will help to guide judges in the use of AI to prevent issues.
