Man killed in house fire in Claremont St. Ann; residents distraught as they were unable to save him

Efforts to rescue a man from a house fire proved futile, as the key could not be found to unlock the grill .

Residents who tried to help watched as 51 year old truck driver Norman Haye died on his verandah.

Member of Parliament (MP) for South East St. Ann Lisa Hanna who knew Mr. Haye for many years, was at the scene of the incident yesterday and like many community residents, is still finding it hard to come to terms with the situation.

She said Mr. Haye’s wife was at work at the time of the incident and he was home alone; it’s not yet known what caused the fire.

The MP said residents are grieving the untimely death of a man who was an upstanding community member.

The South East St. Ann MP said residents are traumatized by how the incident unfolded.  

She is appealing to persons who are sharing images of Hayes’ burnt body on social media to desist.
