Government to ensure that JPS adheres to the prescribed electricity bill adjustments
The government says it will monitor to ensure that the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) adheres to the prescribed electricity bill adjustments.
This as JPS says customers can expect significant reductions in their electricity bills for the September billing cycle.
This comes in the wake of discussions this morning between JPS President Hugh Grant and Energy Minister Daryl Vaz, during which the power company confirmed that the necessary adjustments are being implemented in accordance with the Office of Utilities Regulation’s (OUR) directives.
Last month, the JPS was directed to reverse hefty bills it issued for the August billing cycle.
The high bills resulted in numerous complaints from customers, some of whom did not have electricity for the period particularly due to disruptions caused by Hurricane Beryl.
In response to these complaints, the Energy Ministry established email addresses in August, to streamline the reporting of significant issues experienced by many JPS customers.
The ministry said over 3000 complaints were sent and forwarded to the OUR for further action.
In providing an update on the reduction of bills today Mr.Vaz emphasized the importance of rectifying the challenges highlighted.
