Davion Ferguson vacates Portmore United top job to return as Mount Pleasant assistant coach

Davion Ferguson has returned to the management set up at former Jamaica Premier League champions Mount Pleasant with immediate effect after vacating the post of head coach at Portmore United which he took up at the end of last season.

Mount Pleasant in a statement said it wishes to “Announce that Coach Davion Ferguson has been appointed to serve as a member of the technical staff with immediate effect.”

“This is part of the mandate given to head coach Theodore Whitmore by club owner Peter Gould to build a technical staff that will ensure Mount Pleasant continues to compete at the highest level,” the statement added.

“Coach Ferguson’s engagement strengthens the club’s commitment to returning to its high standard of professionalism.”

Both Ferguson and Whitmore’s contracts were not renewed after Mount Pleasant finished runners-up in the Jamaica Premier League following their loss on penalties to Cavalier in the final in May.

Whitmore, who took up the job to coach Cornwall College in the ISSA DaCosta Cup was re-introduced at Mount Pleasant this week after the team had lost its opening game to Cavalier in the Concacaf Club Championship last week under coach Harold Thomas, who was fired after what was his first game in charge.

Whitmore since returning for a second stint at Mount Pleasant piloted the beaten 2024 finalists to a 2-1 win over CFU Club Shield champions Arnett Gardens on match week two on Tuesday.

Mount Pleasant with the result second in Group A on three points, they return to action in the Concacaf Club Championship when they play away to Police FC at Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago on September 26.

Cavalier, who lead the table on maximum six points from two games, will host Haitian opponents Real Hope on September 17 at Sabina Park.
