Alana Reid wins Jamaica’s first gold medal at World Athletics Under 20 Championship

Alana Reid had a terrific start and great execution through the girls 100m final and 11.17 seconds later she cemented her status as world under 20 champion over the distance.

The world leader and former Hydel stand out gave Jamaica its first gold medal at the World Athletics Under 20 Championship in Lima after winning the girls 100m final in 11.17 seconds.

A Caribbean 1-2-3 was completed when Adaejah Hodge (British Virgin Islands) grabbed the silver in 11.27s and Kishawna Niles (Barbados) took bronze after stopping the clock in 11.37s.

This marks the fourth straight time that Jamaica has won the event. Briana Williams won gold in Tampere, Finland in 2018, Tina Clayton doing like wise in Nairobi, Kenya in 2021, before repeating in Cali, Colombia in 2022.

Jamaica, following Reid’s exploits in the girls 100m event, now stands at 5th in a four way tie on the medal table with a solitary gold.

They are seeking to emulate their performance from Cali 2022 where the team amassed 16 medals which included 6 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze.
