Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw shortlisted for PFA Women’s Player of the Year Award

Reggae Girls captain Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is in contention to win a hat-trick of domestic awards in England owing to her outstanding season for Manchester City in the 2023-2024 Women’s Super League.

Shaw has been named on a six player shortlist for the women’s category for the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Player of the Year Award after leading the Women’s Super League with 22 goals – eight more than her closest rival – despite her season ending prematurely in April due to injury.

Before she was sidelined Shaw was in devastating form in front of goal, becoming the first player to score three WSL hat-tricks in a calendar year (2023). She continued her hot streak between November 2023 and January 2024 grabbing three trebles in just four matches and also went on to overtake Georgia Stanway as City’s record goalscorer.

Her being shortlisted leaves the 27 year old on course for a hat-trick of awards, with her having also scooped the Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Women’s Footballer of the Year awards.

The list of nominees in the women’s category is completed by her Manchester city teammates Lauren Hemp and Yui Hasegawa and the Chelsea trio of Lauren James, Niamh Charles and Erin Cuthbert.

The shortlist for the men’s award is headlined by Manchester City striker Erling Haaland who scoed 27 goals last season to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer.

It also includes Rodri and Phil Foden (Manchester City), Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, Chelsea striker Cole Palmer and Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins.

The award winners will be announced on August 20.
