Police arrested four men and seized a gun earlier today during the curfew imposed on the Cherry Tree community in Four Paths Clarendon. 

The curfew was imposed following last evening’s mass shooting which claimed the lives of 8 people, including a 7 year old. 

Nine others, including a one-year-old were also wounded in the incident which occurred shortly after 9 P.M., on Cherry Tree Lane, in four paths.

The wounded people are being treated at hospital. 

Police have indicated that they are pursuing several lines of inquiry in their probe of the incident. 

They say in addition to the four persons being arrested so far, one firearm has been seized.

Meantime, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, led by Head of the Crime and Security Portfolio, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Fitz Bailey and members of government, inclusive of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, toured the Cherry Tree community today.

Speaking during  the tour, DCP Bailey said the police will ensure that closure is brought to  those who are grieving.

He said  the constabulary  has beefed up its numbers to support residents.

Members of the victim support unit and JCF’s Chaplaincy Service Branch have also been dispatched to  support the grieving family members. 

DCP Bailey said the constabulary will use all the investigative tools and resources that are available to it, to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

He reiterated that a 96 hour curfew has been imposed within the community and  policing activities ramped up in other areas where reprisals are likely.
