Rebuilding sections of JPS’ network in St. Elizabeth necessary and goes far beyond power restoration -JPS President Hugh Grant

President of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) Hugh Grant says rebuilding sections of the company’s network in St. Elizabeth is necessary and goes far beyond power restoration.

Mr. Grant’s declaration follows yesterday’s meeting with the parish’s Members of Parliament and Black River Mayor, Richard Solomon.

St. Elizabeth which was hard-hit by Hurricane Beryl last month is still without electricity in many areas.

The lack of power has resulted in scores of residents mounting roadblocks in several communities to register their frustration.

The latest demonstration in the parish took place yesterday in Fullerswood.

Reporting on yesterday’s meeting, Mr Grant said having seen first-hand the damage to the JPS grid in the parish, much more than power restoration has to be done.

This, he said includes redesigning the company’s distribution system to promote safety and reliability.

He noted, however, that the JPS team is committed to ensuring it meets its August 31 deadline for power restoration in the parish.
