St. Elizabeth residents protest lack of power by JPS for a 3rd consecutive day

For a third consecutive day, residents of St. Elizabeth are protesting the lack of power in their communities and the delay in restoration by the Jamaica Public Service (JPS).

The protests began on Wednesday in Parrottee, where residents used debris to block the main roadway.

This morning residents of Fullerswood joined the protests using trees, rocks and other debris to mount road blocks rendering the road impassable.

The police have since cleared the thoroughfare.

Head of the St. Elizabeth Police Superintendent Coleridge Minto said motorists are now able to traverse the roadway without delays.

He advised that the police are still in the area maintaining a presence.

Meantime, JPS has issued a new deadline of August 31 to restore power to residents of the parish.

The initial August 12 deadlines remains for restoration in other parishes.
