Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Youth Dr. Kasan Troupe says the nation can no longer stay silent about corporal punishment in the homes as it is impacting the society.

She made the statement while speaking at yesterday’s national preparatory session for the Global Ministerial Conference on ‘Ending Violence Against Children’.

Dr Troupe said while many do not agree with banning corporal punishment in the homes, something must be done as the actions taught in homes are felt throughout society.

She called on the public to amplify the call to end corporal punishment in homes.

In may, Justice Minister Delroy Chuck said government was considering a ban on corporal punishment in the homes.

The statement was met with heavy backlash from the public.
