The Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Association (JHTA) has decried the continued carnage on the nation’s roadways.

Its condemnation comes in the wake of yesterday’s motor vehicle collision along the Braco main road, in Trelawny which left four people dead.

The deceased are 58-year-old taxi operator Marlon Lyons of Trelawny and hotel workers 19-year-old Anthony Walters of Happy Mews Alexandria, 32-year-old Sabrina Downie of Discovery Bay and 39-year-old Judy Levy of Browns Town, all in St. Ann.

At least two others are in hospital in critical condition.

According to the National Road Safety Council, some 10 people were killed in road crashes in the first four days of this month, increasing this year’s tally to 230.

Reacting to yesterday’s incident, JHTA President, Robin Russell told IRIE FM news that the time has long passed for road users to act responsibly by complying with traffic rules.

He lamented that it is unfortunate that members of the hotel and tourism sector were involved in such a tragedy.
