Residents in Coker, St. Elizabeth protest over prolonged power outage

As frustration grows over the prolonged lack of electricity, angry residents of Coker District in St. Elizabeth blocked a section of the Maggotty main road this morning.

The residents used downed trees and debris to block the main road.

The protest reportedly hindered movement of persons to some popular attractions in the area, forcing them to use alternative routes.

The residents called on the Jamaica Public Service, J-P-S to move speedily to restore power to the area.

Sections of St. Elizabeth, which was hardest hit by Hurricane Beryl, remains without power, a day shy of one month since the passage of the storm.

In response, the J-P-S again appealed for patience and again assured that teams are working to restore power.

J-P-S Public Relations Manager Audrey Williams said so far, power has been restored to about 60 percent of customers in St. Elizabeth.
