Holness says naming of JDF vessel in honor of Garvey indicates his legacy and philosophy of self reliance
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the naming of a Jamaica Defence Force vessel in honour of national hero Marcus Garvey, is indicative of his legacy and philosophy of self reliance.
The vessel, His Majesty King Charles Jamaican Ship Marcus Garvey, was commissioned into service yesterday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Holness highlighted the significance of the event being held at the time when Jamaica celebrates emancipation and independence.
Mr Holness said Garvey’s teaching resonates with the government’s move towards full economic and political independence.
He noted that the vessel symbolises the country being guided by Garveys legacy.
