Government postpones implementation of toll fees for May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000

Government has postponed the implementation of toll fees on the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000, in an effort to grant a reprieve to motorists in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.

The commencement of tolling on the highway which was scheduled to begin this month, has been rescheduled to August 17.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the delay will allow for critical resources and attention to be directed towards communities in southern parishes, hardest hit by the hurricane, ensuring they receive the necessary support to rebuild and recover.

He says government recognizes the immense challenges faced by the residents in the wake of Hurricane Beryl, and is prioritizing the ongoing recovery efforts.

Mr. Holness adds that the postponement also aims to facilitate smoother transitions for commuters and businesses that rely on this key infrastructure.
