JFJ calls for more authority to be given to government bodies, as the process to transform Jamaica into a Republic continues
As the process to transform Jamaica into a Republic continues, a call is being made for more authority to be given to some government bodies, such as the Office of the Public Defender.
Executive Director of Jamaicans For Justice (JFJ) Mickel Jackson, made the call at the St. James Lay Magistrate Association’s annual general meeting.
According to Ms. Jackson, some government institutions do not receive enough support.
She highlighted the Office of the Public Defender, which she said has limited resources and authority.
She added that the conversation about reforming the constitution should not only be about Jamaica having a President.
According to her, it should also be about public institutions and the power they will have.
