Latanya Wilson named Netball Scoop MVP of the Suncorp Super Netball League

Sunshine girls defender Latanya Wilson has been named the Netball Scoop MVP of the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia.

The award handed out by a celebrated magazine covering the sports ‘netball scoop’ comes after Wilson had a Superb campaign in the regular season for defending champions Adelaide Thunderbirds where she compiled 73 possession gains, 42 intercepts, 82 deflections and 22 pickups.

Described as quite possibly the best wing defence of the era, Wilson was credited by voters for her ability to both shut down players and peel off intercepts and also managing to match Adelaide Thunderbirds teammate and compatriot Shamera Sterling-Humphrey the reigning league MVP in key stats.

In winning the award Wilson tallied 30 votes to finish ahead of Sterling-Humphrey, second with 19 and Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard of the West Coast Fever who was third with 15.

Romelda Aiken- George the other Jamaican in the running for the MVP award received 4 votes.

Wilson in the meantime, was also included in the netball scoop team of the year alongside Sterling-Humphrey and Fowler-Nembhard with Aiken-George named as one of five reserves.
