Government to structure disaster response to Beryl under DRMA
The government says it will structure its disaster response to Hurricane Beryl under the Disaster Risk Management Act, (DRMA).
This following advice given to cabinet by Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie, as well as the latest recommendation from the Met Office to move Jamaica from a Hurricane Watch to a Hurricane Warning.
The DRMA grants additional authority to coordinate and execute a range of emergency response activities.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, says by invoking the DRMA the government is taking a proactive stance to prepare and protect the nation against any potential threats posed by hurricane Beryl.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, Mr. Holness said the orders will also be important in guiding the security forces.
