Transport Ministry reconsidering allocation of demerit points for some offences
The Transport Ministry is reconsidering the allocation of demerit points for static offences.
Static offences are those which happen when a vehicle is not in motion.
The move to reconsider how demerit points are applied for those offences, follows recent protests by public transport operators about the suspension of driver’s licences for the accumulation of 10 or more demerit points.
Speaking at a post-cabinet press briefing today, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz admitted that applying demerit points for non-moving offences can lead to the quick suspension of driver’s licences.
He noted that the recommendations in relation to the demerit points are to be taken to Cabinet in short order.
