Increased toll rates proposed for east-west leg of Highway 2000
Motorists who use the east-west leg of Highway 2000, may soon have to dig deeper in their pockets following a toll increase proposal.
The proposal was published in a notice by the Ministry of Transport with prospective toll increases reaching as high as $200, effective the first weekend in July.
For the Vineyard Toll Plaza, the proposed increase for Class 1 is from $670 to $730 with tag users to pay a discounted rate of $650.
The Class 2 rate will increase from $990 to $1,100 with a discounted rate of $1,050 for tag users.
Meantime Class 3 will go up from $2,000 to $2,200.
For the May Pen Toll Plaza, the proposed increase for class 1 is from $220 to $240 with tag users to pay $220.
Class 2 will go up from $350 to $390 with a discounted rate of $370 for tag users.
Class 3 is set to move from $630 to $700.
For the Spanish Town Toll Plaza, the proposed rate increases range from $15 more for Class 1 vehicles to an increase of $50 for Class 3 vehicles.
For the Portmore Toll Plaza, the proposed increase would see Class 1 vehicles paying $20 more, Class 2 $50 more and Class 3 $70 more.
Meantime, the highway operator has proposed a further discount to tag users for Classes 1 and 2 motorists who use the toll plazas after their 10th trip.
Following the notice of intention to vary the toll, members of the public have 5 days within which to provide feedback.
