PM Holness reiterates call for motorcyclists to wear helmets
Prime Minister Andrew Holness is reiterating the call for motorcyclists to wear helmets, as they operate their motorcycles.
He made the call at the handing over of 200 helmets to motorcyclists in St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann, on Thursday.
The helmets are among over 10, 000 that are to be distributed to bikers across the country.
Mr. Holness noted that government is using the increase in revenue from the enforcement of the Road Traffic Act to procure the helmets.
He stressed that helmets prevent serious injury and save lives in the event of crashes while encouraging their use.
The Prime Minister noted that while many might argue that bikers are responsible for procuring their own helmets, the investment will save medical costs that the government has to bear when accidents occur.
He added that the government is not only focused on enforcing the laws but also on helping citizens to comply.
