The Opposition is calling for an audit of ventilators and high dependency units (HDUs) island-wide.

The call from the Spokesperson on Health, Dr. Alfred Dawes comes amid ongoing concerns by the Opposition  about the location and functionality of donated ventilators.

The Health Ministry says all ventilators donated to support Jamaica’s COVID-19 response are accounted for and are at facilities islandwide. 

It adds that more than 100 are in use.

However, Dr. Dawes contends that these ventilators are not operational.

The Opposition wants the audit to assess how many of these resources are available for Jamaicans in need of critical care.

Meantime Dr. Dawes said if there is no significant improvement, the health care system will soon be at a crisis level.
