Health Ministry assures that all donated ventilators are accounted for

The Health Ministry is assuring that all ventilators donated to the government as part of the country’s Covid-19 response are accounted for and are at facilities islandwide.

This follows questions from Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Alfred Dawes about the status of over a 100 ventilators donated by private sector interests.

In a statement responding to Dr. Dawes’ query, the ministry said during the height of the pandemic, the Southern Regional Health Authority received 6 ventilators, while the Western Regional Authority benefited from 8 and the South East Regional Health Authority got 23.

It noted further that hospitals in the North East Regional Health Authority received 5 ventilators, while the University Hospital of the West Indies received 12.

The ministry said these donations added to the number of existing ventilators in the public health system, bringing the total in use to more than 100.
