Woman among 10 people arrested as police clamp down on extortionists
Ten people including a woman, were arrested as the Police Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) clamped down on extortionists, posing as loader men, at the weekend.
Head of PSTEB Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gary Mckenzie, says the individuals were observed demanding money from operators by way of threats.
He notes that in some instances, these individuals hinder and obstruct passengers who use public transportation.
ACP McKenzie says an operation targeting extortionists was conducted in the Half Way Tree area on Saturday.
ACP McKenzie notes that the issue is challenging, as police do not always get the cooperation of persons affected.
He appealed to persons who have firsthand evidence or information about extortion to notify the police.
