Urgent appeal to ban importation of buses that are not disabled friendly
There is a call for the government to take immediate steps to ban the importation of buses not equipped to accommodate wheelchair users.
The call has come from the ‘Foundation for the Disabled’.
Chief Project Manager Cleon Porter is making an urgent appeal to Transport Minister Daryl Vaz.
He says this ban should remain in place until every parish is adequately served by disabled-friendly buses.
According to him, it is disheartening to hear about Vision 2030, while the disabled community continues to be overlooked.
Mr. Porter states that this neglect represents a blatant disregard for the Disability Act.
He says the Transport Minister should ensure equal access to transportation for all Jamaicans.
