One man is dead and 2 others injured, after a truck overturned on the PJ Patterson Highway yesterday

One man is dead and two others injured after a truck overturned on the PJ Patterson highway, in the vicinity of the Old Harbour exit, in St. Catherine yesterday afternoon.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released.

It was reported that about 5:19 p.m. police and firefighters responded to the incident.

Two injured persons were rushed to hospital.

The body of the deceased, which was trapped under the vehicle, was later removed.

Police reports are that the truck driver allegedly fell asleep, lost control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road, and fell on top of a male pedestrian.

Since the start of the year, 159 people have been killed on the nation’s roads.

In light of a series of recent fatal road crashes, the National Road Safety Council will meet today, to discuss strategies to tackle the issue.

The meeting will be presided over by Chairman Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

Representatives from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), will also participate in the meeting.

Vice Chairman of the Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, says today’s meeting is very important, as Jamaica is experiencing a national crisis.
