Education Minister condemns continued practice of speeding on nation’s roadways; it has resulted in deaths of several children

Education Minister, Fayval Williams has condemned the continued practice of speeding on the nation’s roadways, noting it has resulted in the deaths of several children across the island.

The most recent incident, which happened in Buff Bay Portland yesterday, claimed the lives of Titchfield High School students Jayvan Wynter and Onaja Lindsay.

Several other students sustained injuries and are being treated at hospital.

Minister Williams says while all motorists have a responsibility to comply with road safety regulations, drivers who transport children have an added burden of ensuring their protection.

Mrs. Williams said the Ministry is mobilizing its grief crisis team to provide comprehensive psychosocial support to the affected students, staff, and surrounding community.

She said this team comprises trained professionals equipped to offer counselling and assistance.

Mrs. Williams said anyone needing support should reach out to the designated channels established by the Ministry, including school counsellors and the grief crisis team.
