Representatives of Jamaican companies head to Guyana and Suriname today on business mission aimed at increasing exports of Jamaican goods
Representatives of Jamaican companies are heading to Guyana and Suriname on a business mission in a bid to enable increased exports of Jamaican goods and services and facilitate linkages.
Industry Minister Aubyn Hill is set to lead the delegation.
41 persons have indicated interest in the mission to Guyana and 32 for Suriname.
The business mission, which is set to take place from today May 12 to May 18, is a part of an ongoing strategy to lead export-focused ministerial missions, to lessen the country’s import- export trade gap and bolster further economic growth.
Senator Hill says by increasing productivity, Jamaica positions itself to enter global markets and showcase the country’s excellence worldwide.
The delegation spans a mix of small and large companies across priority sectors including manufacturing, agro-processing/agribusiness, mining, technology and the services industry.
Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) says following previous missions to Guyana and other countries, Jamaican businesses achieved successful outcomes, benefiting the economy.
This will be the first ministerial mission to Suriname, one of the major trading partners with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
In 2021, Jamaica exported over $6 million USD worth of goods to the country, paving the way for further business opportunities.
President of JAMPRO, Shullette Cox, is optimistic that these missions will generate fruitful partnerships that will foster export growth across the sectors.
