Murders continue to decline

There continues to be a decline in the number of murders committed in the island.

This as Jamaica has recorded 56 fewer murders so far this year, in comparison to the corresponding period last year.

According to data obtained from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, 371 people were murdered up to Saturday May 4.

This is 56 fewer than the 427 recorded in the same period of 2023.

St. James recorded the highest number of murders with 48, followed by St. Andrew South with 33 and Westmoreland with 32.

Also recording more than twenty murders are; St. Catherine South with 29, Clarendon with 27, St. Ann with 25 and St. Catherine North and St. Andrew Central with 23 each.

St. Thomas recorded the least number of murders with 4 followed by Portland with 5.

Meantime, in addition to murders cases of rapes robberies and break-ins also decreased.

Rape cases declined by 53 from 158 to 105.

Robberies have gone down by 13 from 243 to 230 and break-ins decreased by 22 from 328 to 306.
