New York pitch installation underway ahead of ICC T20 World Cup

A major milestone has been reached at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium ahead of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with the successful delivery of the pitches that will be used at next month’s showpiece event.

A total of 10 pitches arrived at the New York-based venue ahead of the first match at the ground between Sri Lanka and South Africa on June 3, with work having already commenced on their installation.

Four of the 10 pitches will be prepared in the middle at the 34,000 seat venue located at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, east of Manhattan, with the remaining six to be laid at neighbouring practice facilities.

Nine of the 20 teams at this year’s T20 World Cup will play matches at the venue, with the most eagerly awaited contest at the ground taking place on June 9 when arch-rivals India and Pakistan do battle in the next installment of their ongoing rivalry.

Tournament co-hosts United States, neighbours Canada, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Netherlands, Ireland and Bangladesh are the other teams that will feature at the venue.

Former two-time champions West Indies have been drawn in Group C alongside Papua New Guinea, Uganda, New Zealand and Afghanistan.
