President of the Jamaica Teachers Association Leighton Johnson is calling for a national campaign against violence.

His comment follows the fatal stabbing of a student of Irwin High in St James on Thursday.

15-year-old Raniel Plummer was stabbed to death by a school mate when classes were dismissed.

The alleged attacker is in custody.

Responding to the incident, Mr Johnson said stakeholders and citizens must join hands in spreading the message of peace.

He explained that the media would play an integral role in this campaign.

Mr Johnson said the campaign should be held throughout the year.
