22 persons arrested following protest over fatal shooting of alleged gang leader in St Catherine
Twenty two persons, including 2 men who had been listed as persons of interest, were arrested today, as the police continue efforts to quell tensions, in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
The detainees were picked up during operations that followed protests by angry residents, who had blocked several roadways between last night and this morning.
The upset residents had staged a protest over the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Sheldon Walters, also known as “Termite”, of Dover district, in Kitson Town, yesterday.
In providing an update on the situation, head of the St. Catherine north police division, Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, said one of the 2 POI’s was being sought, in relation to a murder committed 2 years ago, while the other was being sought for questioning in relation to a recent shooting incident.
Superintendent Nicholson said the security forces continue to maintain a strong presence in the area.
