NSWMA boss defends efforts in managing fire at Riverton following criticism
Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority Audley Gordon has defended the efforts of the entity in managing fires at the Riverton disposal site.
This in the wake of harsh criticism from the opposition and environmental lobby groups.
It follows yet another fire at the dump earlier this week that resulted in sections of the corporate area being covered in smoke for days, raising health concerns.
Up to Thursday night efforts continued to eliminate the smoke nuisance.
In reacting to the criticisms, Mr Gordon pointed to the commendable work done by NSWMA workers and the fire brigade, to extinguish the blaze within hours.
Gordon said the management of the situation is what’s crucial, and his team has done its best.
