Smoke emanating from Riverton Disposal Site expected to be cleared today
It is expected that efforts to reduce smoke emanating from the Riverton Disposal site in Kingston will be completed today.
Smoke from the site, due to a fire which started there on Tuesday, has been affecting air quality in the Corporate Area, and forced some businesses to suspend operations.
Speaking with Irie FM News today, Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA Audley Gordon disclosed that checks at the site this morning revealed significant improvement in the clearance of smoke.
He said approximately 80 per cent of the smoke was cleared.
Mr. Gordon said the NSWMA and the Jamaica Fire Brigade will continue to monitor the situation.
