Smoke nuisance from fire at Riverton disposal site significantly reduced
Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) Audley Gordon says the smoke nuisance from the fire at the Riverton disposal site in St. Andrew has been reduced significantly.
The fire, which broke out at the facility shortly after midday on Tuesday, has been under control since this morning, but smoke has been affecting the corporate area.
Speaking with IRIE FM News on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Gordon noted that the effort to control the smoke continues to be impacted by heavy winds.
He said he expects to get the smoke under control tonight.
