Commuters including children stranded following protest in Redberry, Manchester over road and water
Scores of commuters including school children were left stranded on Monday morning, as residents of Redberry in Manchester, mounted roadblocks to demanded better roads and improved water supply.
The residents used rocks, debris including old refrigerators and lit fires on the roadway.
Irie Fm news understands that the St. Jago Primary and Infant, Harmons Primary and Infant, Ramble Primary and Infant, Reeves Basic, Porus Primary and Infant and the Porus High schools are among institutions impacted.
One transport operator told Irie Fm news that poor roads have been a longstanding issue.
He said it is costing drivers thousands to maintain vehicles.
Another resident also called for better roads and for the authorities to improve the water supply and address the dust nuisance in the area.
Last September the residents blocked the main road seeking the attention of the authorities.
