Representatives from the University of Technology Academic Staff Union (UTASU) say they were encouraged by wage discussions held yesterday with Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke.

Dr. Clarke and Education Minister Fayval Williams hosted the meeting in response to a strike notice issued by UTASU.

During a special general meeting last Thursday, UTASU’s members voted to withdraw their service today.

However, that strike notice was rescinded yesterday, after Dr. Clarke invited UTASU to the meeting.

In an update last evening, UTASU said the meeting was productive, with amicable discussions on key issues affecting members.

UTASU said a follow-up meeting with Dr. Clarke should be held sometime around April 21.
