JTA calls for deployment of more police to Westmoreland schools following threats from gunmen
The Jamaica Teacher’s Association, JTA is calling on the Ministries of National Security and Education to deploy additional police personnel to schools in Westmoreland.
This following an upsurge in violence in communities, such as Little London and Grange Hill.
In recent days several murders were committed in the communities, the most recent occurring yesterday.
At least 2 schools in Grange Hill dismissed classes early, after receiving threats of attack from gunmen.
JTA President Leighton Johnson says the government must put measures in place to ensure the safety of students and school staff.
He says these incidents of violence cannot be allowed to disrupt classes, as many students are preparing for exams.
