What was expected to be a day of celebration for a St. Catherine family, quickly turned into sadness, as 4 relatives were burnt to death at their home in Central Village, this morning.

Dead are 13 year old Sora White, her mother, sister and nephew, who at the time of his death, had just turned 4. 

He celebrated his birthday yesterday.

Reports are that at about 1:30am, the family was at their three bedroom dwelling in the Compound community, when gunshots were heard and the house set ablaze. 

When the police and firefighters arrived and cooling down operations were conducted the four burnt bodies were found.

Police say they have increased their presence in the community since the incident.

However, a sombre mood hangs over the community as well as the Jose Marti High Cchool where Sora was a student.

Principal Dr. Austin Wright told Irie FM News that she was a promising grade 7 student, who joined the school family last September.

He said grief counselling was conducted at the institution today.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wright is calling for divine intervention and better protection of the nation’s children.

Meanwhile, Head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Communications Unit Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay said detectives are following several lines of inquiry into the incident.

In the meantime, she is calling on persons with information to help the police.
