11 day old baby girl stolen from mother at VJB, found alive

An 11 day old baby girl who was stolen from her mother at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston, this morning, was found alive this afternoon.

The infant identified as Kimoya Robe was reportedly stolen by a woman at about 10 a-m.

The police say baby Kimoya was found sometime around 4 p-m, in Franklyn Town, East Kingston.

The woman, who is alleged to have taken her, has been taken into custody.

Regional Director of the South East Regional Health Authority, SERHA Errol Greene told Irie FM News that the suspect took the child, after she approached the mother, who is wheelchair bound, and offered to assist with the baby.

Meantime, Mr. Greene has emphasized that baby Kimoya was not stolen from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital and therefore, the incident does not indicate a repeat of a previous case of theft there.

He stressed that the baby was ‘taken away’ after the mother handed her to a woman.

Mr. Greene noted that there are surveillance cameras at the facility and SERHA is cooperating with the police as the matter is investigated.
